Performing Arts At City of Stars

Boom! Boom! City Of Stars here we come!

After a series of performances in different professional stages, the performing artists were up for a bigger task. Being lined up for a performance at the City Of stars festival was not perceived as a belittled assignment. This came to be upon the reception of an invitation from Lake Of Stars organizers for the artists to present at the city of stars festival what they do best-Theatrical Performance.

It was a cool and sunny Saturday afternoon (28th Sept, 2013) at the Lilongwe sanctuary lodge which was  the venue for the festival where everyone was excited by the prospect of performances by different artists on schedule. The performing artists were also included on the day's schedule to present what they had prepared for the day.

Neil the Master Of ceremony stood on stage after the Amahoro drummers had just finished
entertaining the crowd with their hilarious drumming abilities." Next on stage is a group of artists from Dowa, give it up for them," he introduced them on stage. They (performing artists) were filled with nervous emotions prior to their performance due to the excitement and gravity of the occasion. However, they gathered courage and turned the nervousness into competent and enthusiastic ability. With a quick morale routine, they stepped on the stage.

Their performance was divided into three sections. The initial section was composed of a choreographic dance.  Four of the artists from the group emerged as dancers . Three girls and a young man stepped on the platform and  posed into the preset waiting for the music to play. All of a sudden, the music started  playing and the dancers danced to it with matching rhythmic movements. The audience members were moved with the twisting and stretching of the dancers' bodies. What an eye catching dance that was! The dancers stepped off the stage after the performance.

The dance was followed by a drama in which the actors played characters of real existing people rather than fictitious ones. The audience was excited to hear characters such as will Jameson (director of lake of stars), Tamanda Mbendera (city of stars project manager) and many others. Actually, the play was aimed at sensitizing people on lake of stars aims and objectives, prompting them into evaluating what lake of stars has contributed so far to Malawi and around the globe. Entertaining the crowd was also another motive behind the play. The audience really enjoyed the play.

The last section of the performance was another choreographic dance whereby the very same first dancers lined up for another moment of cheering up the crowd. They danced with a background song "thong song" by Sisqo. This time considering the fact that it was a finale, they really did it with great energy. The dance was solely aimed at entertaining the crowd. The aim was accomplished given the fact that the audience started engaging with them during the course of dancing. Towards the end of the dance, the artists came together for a bow. The crowd cheered and applauded for the fantastic effort of the performing artists who were then going off the stage.

After the performance, Mrs. Temwa had this to say, "congratulations guys, you have done a great job. I hope you keep the wonderful work you are doing and reach very far with your talents."
